MORE than 50 female pool players will tomorrow congregate at Bulawayo’s Palace Hotel for the fourth edition of the Zimbabwe Women’s Pool Association (ZWPA) monthly national tournament.
ZWPA has been holding monthly tournaments as a way of spreading the game to various parts of the country as they seek to rope in more female players to the game.
Pool has for long been a male dominated sport, with a few women mastering the art of billiards.
In Bulawayo, most pool clubs have taken a deliberate initiative to have more women participating in the sport, with some elevated to be administrators and umpires.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s competition, ZWPA marketing and publicity officer Flatta Moyo said they are looking forward to an entertaining tournament.
“Preparations for the tournament are at an advanced stage with the hosts having prepared the eight tables that we need for the day.
This is a big tournament and as such we expect to see some quality pool from the country’s best female players.
“There are a lot of prizes to be won. We have received an overwhelming response from players who are willing to be part of the prestigious event.
“We call on all ladies out there who have an interest in pool or those who would like to have an appreciation of the game to come and enjoy this beautiful game with us,” said Moyo.
Some of the top players expected to be part of the proceedings tomorrow are Cristine Sengwe, Prisca Mujakachi, Petronella Sibanda and Thabiso Chikono. — @innocentskizoe
