Most offensive gravestone

WE are not laughing out loud The acronym, which in 2014 turned 25, is not something you’d expect to find on a gravestone. And yet this image says otherwise. It appears one family had it inscribed onto a family member’s stone memorial.

They almost certainly didn’t mean ‘LOL’ in the way you might think, of course. The letters are simply short for Lawrence. A friendly nickname you might have encountered before. We’re definitely not laughing at Lawrence Wainwright.

But one comedian on Twitter did make an amusing joke out of the inscription. The term ‘LOL’ was coined in the mid-1980s, long before Lawrence sadly passed away. It’s ubiquitous in conversations today.

Maybe his relatives knew exactly what they were doing. An amusing send-off for a funny guy.
Probably not. Still, it’s crossed some people’s minds.
