A mother and her five children died on the spot after their vehicle collided head-on with a haulage truck along the Masvingo-Harare highway, in a bloody start to the Easter holidays.

The woman was driving a Toyota Corolla vehicle heading to Zvishavane from Harare together with her five children when their car collided with a haulage truck heading to Harare.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the crash occurred at the 246km peg along the highway.

“All six people who were in the Toyota Corolla vehicle (mother and her five children) died on the spot and their bodies were taken to Masvingo Provincial Teaching Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

Names of the deceased will be released by the police after their next of kin have been informed.

According to police preliminary reports, the woman who was driving the Toyota Corolla lost control of her vehicle resulting in it encroaching into the opposite lane where it collided, head-on, with a haulage truck.
