A RUWA woman lost valuables worth US$1 000 in a school yard while dropping off her child on Tuesday.

Tendai Matapura, 42, forgot to lock the doors of her Toyota Belta when she disembarked to visit the school hostels.

She was dropping her child for lessons at Highlands Primary School.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the case and urged people to secure their vehicles wherever they park.

“Police have noted with concern an increase in theft from cars being reported in Harare,” said Insp Chakanza.

“In one of the cases, a Ruwa woman parked her vehicle at the Highlands Primary School car park where she was dropping her kid.

“She disembarked and went to the school hostels leaving the car doors unlocked.

“When she came back, she discovered that her handbag containing a Samsung cellphone, US$450, Zimbabwean passport and driver’s licence had been stolen.”

In another case, Lorraine Bennet of Chisipite lost US$130 cash and some valuables after a thief broke her Honda CRV’s right quarter glass and stole two wallets under the driver’s seat.
