FIRST LADY Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa yesterday took her feeding initiative to the Nyabira community, where multitudes of children benefited as part of her commitment to their well-being in line with the nation’s collective shared goal of a healthier, brighter Zimbabwe.
Dr Mnangagwa, the country’s Health and Child Care Ambassador, who has consistently urged parents to feed their families traditional dishes that are highly nutritious and medicinal, personally ensured that scores of children were fed a variety of wholesome foods.
A hands-on person, Mother Zimbabwe, with the assistance of community members and Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo, prepared a sumptuous spread for the children that curbs conditions like kwashiorkor.
The menu included rice with peanut butter, dried vegetables cooked in peanut butter, roast chicken, beef stew, beans, cabbage, offals, and potatoes.
Children were also served bottled drinking water and juice to accompany their meals.
There was such an abundance of nutritious food that parents also had the opportunity to partake.
Gratitude and renewed hope filled the community as children received the nutritious food, an act their parents described as deeply caring, especially in curbing malnutrition.
They highlighted that the provision of nutritious food, curbing conditions like kwashiorkor, demonstrated Mother Zimbabwe’s genuine concern for their welfare.

A parent, Mrs Eunica Mabhande, said Dr Mnangagwa left a lasting impression in the area through the nutritional value of the meals served.
“The food served is healthy and was well prepared, including rice with peanut butter. It helps restore our children’s strength and improve their well-being,” she said.
Another parent, Mrs Noreen Chirasasa, said the First Lady has been a pillar of strength for the community.
“We were happy that Amai Mnangagwa remembered us. Our children were given nutritious food, which we greatly appreciate and as women, we felt respected and valued,” she said.

Mrs Farai Mutemaringa also saluted the First Lady, saying the children received both food and drinks, ensuring everyone was well-nourished.
Another parent, Ms Magret Kamwaza, said the atmosphere in the community had changed for the better.
“Everyone is happy because of the love shown to us through healthy food,” she said.
Elderly community members also expressed appreciation for the focus on health. Granny Lucia Moffat said the provision of nutritious food demonstrated genuine concern for the children’s welfare.
“We thank Amai Mnangagwa for caring about the health of our children. Her support countrywide always encourages us,” she said.

Mrs Amos Chiguya said the initiative brought comfort to children, especially during this festive season.
“We are grateful for what our First Lady has done and ask that she continues to stand with us like a mother,” she said.
Mr William Masiku said the children’s joy was evident.
“Because Amai Mnangagwa remembered us, our children were able to eat nutritious food. The food curbs issues of kwashiorkor,” he said.
The First Lady’s outreach reaffirmed her long-standing commitment to promoting nutrition, family health, and community well-being, leaving families encouraged and hopeful.
