THIS year’s season-ending motocross event – the Zimbabwe Summer Series – has been shelved.
Th series has for more than a decade been traditionally held for three days during the second week of December at the home of local motorsport, Donnybrook Park Raceway in Harare.
It usually marks the end of the season for the exciting motorcycling sport of motocross.
But this year it is off the radar, according to Scott Fraser, the chairman of the Bogwheelers Club, which runs motocross in this country on behalf of Motorsport Zimbabwe.
Fraser told Zimpapers Sports Hub yesterday that they decided to cancel this year’s series after its dates clashed with the fifth and final round of the 2025 World Supercross Championship, which will be held next month in Cape Town, South Africa.
The 2025 World Supercross Championship season concludes with a historic South African GP in Cape Town on December 13 at the DHL Stadium.
As World Supercross’ first-ever round in Africa, this milestone round – promoted by Showtime Management – marks the championship’s expansion into a new continent, bringing elite Supercross competition to one of the world’s most vibrant sporting nations.
As the season’s grand finale, where the 2025 World Supercross Champions will be crowned, the South African GP promises to be a dramatic and unforgettable conclusion to an incredible season of racing.
“Unfortunately, the World Supercross scheduled their final race of the year in Cape Town on the same weekend that we were supposed to hold this year’s Zimbabwe Summer Series, hence our ability to get riders up here was badly affected hence we called it off this year.
“Plans are for it to be back next year,” Fraser said.
The Zimbabwe Summer Series is one of the most popular events on the local motorsport calendar and it used to attract top international motocross riders.
