ALL eyes will be on Donnybrook Park Raceway in Harare tomorrow, as the final round of the 2025 National Championships takes place on the Main Circuit.

Sables Motor Club have attracted a full field of Saloon and Sports cars, driven by Zimbabwe’s fastest motor racing drivers, and they will all be competing for Championship points, as well as the prestigious Rob Rushforth Trophy.

This annual award is named in honour of the legendary Rushforth who won multiple championships on MX bikes, as well as race and rally cars. The first four rounds of the championship, held in Harare and Bulawayo, have produced a surprise A Class Saloon leader.

Des Morris has been “Mr Consistency” in his Nissan 370Z, finishing on the podium in every race, and he has extended his lead to 8 points over BMW driver Barney Rogers, and 12 points over Bulawayo driver Calvin Rademeyer.

However, there are 20 points available tomorrow, so Morris’ lead is far from secure.

The 2000cc Turbo Class has been dominated by Bulawayo drivers, with Angelo Tavares taking his Subaru to an unassailable points lead. Usama Patel has forced his Toyota MR2 into second place in the championship, but his charge came too late to grab the overall honours.

Bulawayo drivers also lead the 2000cc class, with Quinton Holder ahead of Winston Jardine. The biggest Saloon Class is the 1600cc Class, where 11 drivers have scored points this year, including two of Zimbabwe’s fastest female drivers. However, Declan Mellor has proven to be both fast and consistent, and has secured his first championship in 2025.

Catherine Zevgolis was very fast at times, but university commitments have taken her out of the running. Likewise, Jamie Kerwin will miss this meeting due to motorsport commitments in Kenya, but her Toyota will be taken over by her husband Shaun. Neil Bruce and Chris Morris are both Toyota powered tomorrow.

In the Sports Car Class, Eric Heard will make his first appearance of the year aboard his Yamaha powered Super 7, and will challenge Brett Olsen as well as Gary Kirk.

Maurizio Savo has been spotted practising at the track, as has Ronnie Parcell, so close, exciting racing is assured. The Race Day will culminate in the 10-lap Grand Prix, which will be the first time that drivers from all classes will compete against each other in a handicap format based on their previous lap times.

Add in vintage cars, superbike demonstrations, tomorrow promises to be a great day in the sun.
