There was chaos yesterday at the Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) offices as motorists queued for new number plates.

Chaos started when some youthful motorists joined a queue reserved for senior citizens.

The scramble for vehicle registration plates follows police visibility on most roads to clamp down on criminals using unregistered vehicles to rob people.

One of the motorists only identified as Takwana told H-Metro that he was correcting his vehicle registration book.

“I noticed that my registration plates were different from those at CVR upon renewing the licence at ZINARA.

“There was a mistake on the number plates and that is what I want to rectify.

“Traffic police officers and City Parking officials have been descending heavily on vehicles without licences and number plates,” said Takwana.

CVR has been processing company vehicle registration plates while private vehicle registrations have been decentralised to Post Offices in various suburbs to reduce
