A MOTSWANA national has been ordered to pay a $50 fine for entering the country through an undesignated point.
Plumtree magistrate Joshua Mawere convicted Obert Thapelo (29) of Jakalasi area for entering by evasion.
He was ordered to pay a $50 fine or sentenced to 30 days imprisonment in case of default.
Prosecuting, Elisha Mazorodze said Thapelo entered the country illegally on April 24 and was arrested on the same day in Plumtree Town.
a�?On 24 April Thapelo crossed into Zimbabwe from Botswana through an illegal crossing point in Ngwanyana area, Mangwe District. The matter came to light after Thapelo had a misunderstanding with a cashier at a local supermarket in Plumtree.
a�?The cashier alerted police officers to resolve the dispute who then discovered that Thapelo didna��t have travel documents resulting in his immediate arrest,a�? he said.
A Motswana woman was recently ordered to pay a $20 fine after she entered the country through an illegal point to visit her two-year-old son while he was ill.
Kelapile Lekodo (33) of Francistown was arrested after she went to the Plumtree Police Station to obtain a burial order for her son, Johnson Lekodo who was staying with his grandparents in Nyabane area, Bulilima District.
Lekodo entered the country illegally on April 4 after she received information that he son was ill. She was arrested on April 19 after her son had died.
She was convicted on her own plea of guilty to entering by evasion and remaining in the country without a visitora��s entry permit by Plumtree magistrate, Taurai Manwere.
