While there was a collective sigh of relief from his fans when he released the video for his smash hit Disappear in November last year, they might be facing an even longer wait for videos for songs from Winky Das hit album Gafa Futi. A
The snazzy, HD quality video for Disappear gave some hope that the star had turned over aA new leaf, as more videos for his songs were promised at the time.
Seven months after the release of an album that has cemented his spot at the apex of the Zimbabwean music scene however, no visuals for any of his hit songs have graced the internet or television stations.
In simpler terms, this means that the celebrated Gafa has released a single video for two albums worth of songs.
While the video for Disappear was welcome, some felt that it had come a little too late, as excitement for the smash hit had somewhat fizzled out after a year since its release. To date, the video sits on 286 000 views, a far cry from some of the stars with whom Winky grapples for the throne.
Jah Prayzah, for example, has already garnered almost 740 000 views for his latest video, Sendekera with South Africaas Mafikizolo. The video was released a month ago.
Many have pointed out that the lack of videos is a potential Achilles Heel for Winky, as it diminishes his star power particularly on the continental stage where Prayzah is now flourishing.
The staras manager, Jonathan Banda, said that fans would have to wait a little longer to see videos of Winky on the small screen.
a?Weare going to start work on new videos when we begin work on new musical productions later this year. The one key thing that fans have to know is that theyare coming. We have a lot of projects in the pipeline and once we commence with musical productions that is when we will commit to doing fresh videos,a? he said.
