Mountaineers won by an innings and 114 runs

A fine bowling spell by Donald Tiripano led Mountaineers to a devastating innings and 114 runs win over Tuskers on the final day of their Logan Cup match at Harare Sports Club.

Tiripano finished with fine figures of 5/56, with only Cunningham Ncube able to put up any resistance with the bat.

Tuskers began the final morning on 178-4 in their second innings, with Ncube on nine and Shoun Handirisi on one; still needing 192 more runs to avoid an innings defeat.

Ncube showed positive intent from the start, while Handirisi was content to hold up his end.

After 20 minutes of play, Ncube brought up the 200 and then Handirisi decided to open up more.

He hit a four and a three to take his score to 10, but was then given out, caught at the wicket off Tiripano to leave the score at 209-five.

Mountaineers set attacking fields and sometimes posted as many as a five-man slip codone, which opened up more gaps for the batsmen to score when they were successful.

Thamsanqa Nunu made a positive start and played some good strokes, scoring 17 off 19 balls before being given out, caught at the wicket off Tiripano.

Chris Mpofu edged Tiripano’s delivery between slips and gully, where Tino Mawoyo made a brilliant catch diving far to his right.

A third wicket quickly fell on 248, as Ncube’s fighting innings ended on 38, after he edged Tendai Chatara to be caught behind.

Tiripano struck again when he trapped Tuskers captain John Nyumbu lbw for three.

The last pair battled it out for three overs, but then the match ended when Stephen Chimhamhiwa edged Victor Nyauchi to be caught behind without scoring, leaving Sheunopa Musekwa not out on four.
