VENDORS selling their wares during the night on the streets and on the pavements in the Harare CBD have been ordered to move to designated sites or face arrest.

The initial police operation, which started last night, was meant to remind the vendors that they are not allowed to display their wares on the streets and on the pavements at night.

In a statement, Police Community Relations and Liaison Officer, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, urged all vendors operating during the night and on the pavements that they face the possibility of being arrested.

“Police work hand in glove with the community in fighting crime,” said Insp Chakanza.

“We (will) move around the Central Business District (CBD) to urge vendors to move to designated points and avoid clashing with law enforcers.

“We are aware of vendors displaying their wares on streets during the night.

“We are saying NO to night vending.

“We are saying NO to vending at pavements.

“We have reports of vendors losing their valuables in private vehicles and Mushikashika after leaving the CBD in the late hours.

“Some women have been falling prey to rapists in maize fields on their way home in the late hours.

“Let us value our life more than money.

“We have designated points for every vendor and we are urging them to make use of such places,” said Insp Chakanza.

A team of CRLO led by Insp Chakanza drove around the Harare CBD sending the message to a number of vendors last night.
