continue to be successful.
Moyes takes over from Sir Alex Ferguson at United on July 1 but has already begun work behind the scenes.
Addressing 300 coaches and sporting directors at a New York conference, Moyes said: ‘You have to earn your stars when dealing with players. It’s up to you to show what you’ve got.
‘If you want to work for me you need to be able to work seven days a week. I need to know my staff will give me that effort.
‘Discipline has to come from within for players. And I’m a great believer in giving young players opportunities.
‘Developing players mentally is very important, but it needs to fit with what the players want
“You have to keep your eye on what the industry is doing — what’s new. And your recruiting as a manager can determine whether you keep your job.
“Everton needed a new direction when I came in and, as a coach, you have to find ways you can keep developing.
Moyes also suggested he will need to emulate Sir Alex Ferguson in having control at United.
“It’s a great honour to be appointed at Manchester United,” said Moyes. ‘(But) don’t assume your board of directors always have the answers. You need to influence (as a manager or coach). Van Persie believes his club are capable of achieving more success even without Sir Alex as manager.
“I have a feeling we can do much more and that we can win many more trophies. I’ve had a year to work with everyone and now the whole (coaching) staff is changing which makes it a new challenge,’ Van Persie told the Dutch football union website on Wednesday.
“I’ve got to know the players through and through and I’ve a feeling they have a lot more (success) in them. A whole lot more.
“The season began as a nice challenge but you never know how these things will turn out. But now I have a sense of pride, it was a great season. A pressured year.
“I’d have preferred it if he’d stayed a few more years but I understand his decision. I’m even prouder that I could work under him for a year. I could see he was a legendary man.’
United are set to complete the signing of talented young Uruguayan Guillermo Varela.
The full-back spent time on trial at Old Trafford in the final weeks of last season, and did enough to impress coaches and earn an offer.
Varela will arrive in Manchester shortly to complete the deal after a fee of around £1m was agreed with his club, Penarol.
The Uruguyan club’s treasurer, Rodolfo Catino, is travelling with the player to iron out the final few details.
He tweeted on Wednesday: ‘In San Pablo airport waiting for the connection to London, with Guille (Varela)about to board”. — Mailonline.
