ZIMBABWEAN-BORN Nkosilathi Moyo dreams of coaching either the South African or Zimbabwean volleyball teams.
Moyo, who is based in Johannesburg, South Africa, believes his love for the sport has impacted positively on his communities.Moyo began his career at his rural base in Nkayi where he coached students at Hlangabeza, Mpumelelo and Nesigwe High Schools.

During his stint at these three respective schools he was a teacher.

His achievement came soon after the Matabeleland Volleyball Association split in 2004 to form three provinces.

He was among the pioneers of Matabeleland North and continued working and developing the sport until October 2008 when he moved to South Africa.

In 2009 he introduced volleyball at Troyeville Primary School in Johannesburg where he teaches.

Moyo told Chronicle Sport: “Students, parents and the sports governing body welcomed me and supported volleyball and other technical skills I brought to the school.

“I participated in school games in South Africa. Surprisingly in 2010 my Under-13 boys became Gauteng champions and represented Gauteng Province against all South African provinces and they were crowned national champions.”

Moyo said since then his school has been champions and even overcame stubborn KwaZulu-Natal by winning a gold medal.

In 2012 they won a silver medal and in 2013 they won gold.

“Since I introduced volleyball in the school I have never lost a league match with my Under-13 boys. I only lost against KZN in the national tournament.

“I was also nominated in the Gauteng Sports Awards in 2011 and lost in the finals.”

At the moment Moyo is among favourites for nomination for the Gauteng Sports Awards which will be hosted in July at Monte Casino in Gauteng.

In 2011, he was appointed as the Gauteng Under-23 provincial coach and later on was deployed as the Under-19 coach a post he still holds.

Next month he will lead his team in a national volleyball tournament in Polokwane where all provinces will clash.

Moyo, previously coached Matabeleland North Province at the Zimbabwe National Youth Games from 2005-2008, said:
“I’m ready to coach the SA national team but my biggest ambition is to coach Zimbabwe.”

He is a holder of an Federation of International Volleyball Level One coaching certificate.
