ZIMBABWE-born volleyball coach Nkosilathi Moyo saw his team Johannesburg Spikers Volleyball Academy survive relegation after they beat Wits University 3-0 in Johannesburg on Saturday.
The Spikers Volleyball Academy has been struggling with youthful players in the league.
Moyo believes his team will be fighting for honours next season as they have gained good exposure in the game.
Last week Moyo’s team collected maximum points after humiliating Quantum Volleyball Club 3-0 in Johannesburg.
The Nkayi-born coach said: “I’m happy about avoiding relegation. This has really given us some hope that we have matured in the sport even though I’m working with an Under-17 team.
During the break we will be looking at all the weaknesses including mental and physical fitness. But I’m happy with the way my boys played our last two games. If we continue with that spirit we are destined for honours next year and we will be fighting for silverware.”
The Troyeville Primary School teacher said two teams from the eight-team league were relegated.
It was an amazing feat for Spikers Volleyball Academy to avoid the chop as they finished in sixth position.
Moyo felt he has achieved his mission of preserving the club’s topflight status.
