Mozambican in court for selling secondhand shoes

Collette Mukome
A MOZAMBICAN national landed himself in trouble after he illegally crossed into Zimbabwe to sell secondhand shoes in a bid to raise money for his ailing wife. Joel Mukaringana (46) illegally entered into the country on June 23 and was arrested by police officers at Vumba Turn-off. He has since appeared before senior Mutare magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura in connection with the offence.
Mr Douglas Mutiure prosecuted.

When he was arrested he failed to produce a passport and papers that showed that he was authorised to sell goods in Zimbabwe.
Mukaringana committed the same crime on May 25 when he was caught with 10 pairs of shoes.

“I am still in the process of acquiring a passport Your Worship. I have four children to take care of and I need money for my hospitalised wife,” he said.
He was ordered to pay $70 fine.
