MP loses monthly rentals to caretaker

In his defence Gumbani argued that he never saw the money, adding that he just delivered the envelope to Mbire without opening it. Prosecutor Mr Tungamirai Chakurira then called Cde Ndhlovu to take to the witness stand.
She told the court that she wanted to travel to Victoria Falls and had asked Mbire if she could give Gumbani her rentals to pass on to him.
Cde Ndlovu said she sealed the money in an envelope together with a 25-litre fuel coupon in the presence of Gumbani and then gave it to him.
She also testified that she later received a phone call from Mbire, who told her that there was no money in the envelope and that it was not sealed.
Cde Ndhlovu made a report to the police after Gumbani failed to account for the money. The trial continues today.
