ZANU-PF legislator for Mazowe North Cde Campion Mugweni has castigated the violent protests that rocked Mvurwi town on Tuesday and called on all perpetrators to be brought to book.
Calm has since returned to the farming town after rowdy rioters led by MDC-Alliance provincial youth chairperson Tonderai Samhu took to the streets on Tuesday and blocked major roads using boulders and transmission poles before looting vendors’ wares.
The protest resulted in the arrests of Samhu and six MDC-Alliance members.
“As a party and country I would like to say we have zero tolerance for domestic terrorism. Yes, people have the right to protest, but when it results in the disturbance of peace and causes unrest, the law should always take its course.
“It is a small group of people which includes Tonderai Samhu and Thulani Ndlovu, who incited other residents to join them in furthering their political agenda. They wreaked havoc in the town and destroyed a lot of property.
“Shingi Rungangah is also one of kingpins behind these violent protests in my constituency which is 110 percent behind the President,” said Cde Mugweni.
