PUMULA legislator Cde Godfrey Malaba (Zanu-PF) has held a victory celebration party and pledged to work for the development of the constituency.
The celebrations were held at Isilwane Youth Centre in Old Pumula suburb on Saturday.
Cde Malaba was among the five Zanu-PF lawmakers who secured National Assembly seats after winning the June 10 by-elections triggered by the expulsion from parliament of MPs who had defected from the MDC-T.
The Zanu-PF MPs who won in Bulawayo in the June polls are Cdes Tshinga Dube (Makokoba), Maidei Mpala (Lobengula), Ntandoyenkosi Mlilo (Luveve) and Joseph Tshuma (Pelandaba-Mpopoma).
The Minister of State for provincial affairs in Bulawayo, Cde Nomthandazo Eunice Moyo, attended the victory celebrations and thanked the people for voting for Zanu-PF. She urged them to vote for the party again in the 2018 general polls.
“We ask that you vote for him again in the 2018 elections. I urge you to work hard for 2018 so that we win the elections. I thank Cde Malaba for being patient as he was always losing elections before,” said Cde Moyo.
Cde Malaba said that he would this week launch a development association following concerns presented to him by the people. He said the association would consist of the social welfare, education and employment creation departments.
Cde Malaba said that the victory celebration, which had enabled him to interact with the people, was meant to thank Pumula residents for voting for him.
“Residents have presented concerns of unemployment, the need for electricity and road construction in other areas. The association will assist everyone. It will look at development issues and it will work towards implementing change in the constituency,” said Cde Malaba. “I wanted to thank my people for voting for me. I will always be there for their concerns as they voted me to present their issues in parliament.”
