Zimpapers radio station Star FM has been awarded a Friends of Mpilo certificate by Mpilo Central Hospital in honour of its work in promoting the hospital’s image and reputation. This follows widespread coverage of issues to do with the hospital’s operations by the country’s first commercial radio station.
Speaking during the ceremony to honour the station, which was held at the Star FM studios in Mbare yesterday, Mpilo Central Hospital chief executive officer Dr Lawrence Mantiziba said the hospital has been able to attract some investment from the corporate sector following wide coverage by the media about the challenges it has faced in the past.
“We’ve secured much needed support from the corporate sector due to the efforts by the media to highlight some of the problems we’ve been facing, and for that, we are grateful to Star FM,” he said.
Dr Mantiziba was accompanied to the radio station by the Mpilo Central Hospital board chairperson Sichelesile Moyo-Ncube.
The hospital also recognised Star FM’s news reporter and presenter Mkhululi Ncube for his concerted efforts in highlighting issues concerning the hospital and health issues affecting people in Bulawayo.
Star FM’s acting general manager Darlick Marandure expressed the radio station’s commitment to providing the station’s listeners with the latest, relevant and cutting edge information through its programming. He said he hoped the partnership with the hospital would continue to grow.
