MPILO’S CANCER MACHINES NOW 90 PERCENT COMPLETE. . . as National Tuberculosis Reference Laboratory nears completion

GOVERNMENT has revealed that the repair of cancer machines at Mpilo Hospital is 90 percent complete with the CT scan and the chiller being work in progress.

Speaking during a post-Cabinet briefing, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere said: 

“The Minister of Health and Child Care, Honourable Dr. Douglas Mombeshora, reported that the following progress has been recorded on projects under his purview:

i. The repair of cancer machines at Mpilo Hospital is 90% complete, with the CT scan and the Chiller being work in progress.

ii. The replacement of Gel batteries with Lithium batteries at 15 health facilities which include Bota and Gutu Rural Hospitals is at 99% of completion.

iii. The construction of a National Tuberculosis Reference Laboratory at  Mpilo Hospital is on course, with the construction of the super structure being at 85% of completion.

iv. The construction of the water tank at Chitungwiza Central Hospital is on course, with the overall progress being at 55% of completion.

v. The installation of X-ray Machines at Chikurubi Maximum Prison Hospital and Inkomo Barracks Hospital was completed, while other hospitals are at various stages of completion.

vi. The construction of oxygen plant rooms at Lupane Hospital and Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital is underway, with the projects expected to be completed in December 2024.

vii. The procurement of materials for the renovation of 10 waiting mothers’ shelters and theatres at Mt. Darwin, St. Albert’s, Siakobvu, Chidamwoyo, Sanyati, Father O’Hea, Manama, St. Annes Brunapeg, Inyathi and Nkayi, is in progress.”

Dr Muswere added:

“The construction of the Chitulipasi Community Solar Project in Beitbridge, Matabeleland South Province, has been completed and awaits commissioning.

“The Muchekayaora Grid Extension Project in Gutu District, Masvingo Province, has been completed and awaits commissioning, while the Negande Grid Extension Project in Kariba District, Mashonaland West Province is at 85 percent of completion.”

He said the commissioning of the Great Zimbabwe Mini Hydro-Power Station is work in progress.
