THE stage is set for fireworks in Chinhoyi as the Under-17 National Association of Secondary School Heads (NASH) Ball Games finals kick off on Thursday.
Twelve provincial champions will lock horns in two days of high-stakes soccer, with Chinhoyi High School playing host on behalf of Mashonaland West.
Bulawayo’s hopes lie with Mpopoma High School, a powerhouse in youth football, representing the city in both boys’ and girls’ categories. The boys’ team stormed into the national finals with a 5-0 demolition of Lobengula High.

“We are ready to go and deliver,” said Cain Ncube, the provincial head in charge of soccer. “Mpopoma has strong teams that can take on anyone.”
The school boasts a track record of grooming stars like Reason Sibanda, Gerald Sibanda, Mpumelelo Sibanda, Reward Muza, Brighton Makopa and Junior Makunike.
James Rugwevera, Mpopoma’s teacher in charge of sport, said their 25-player squad is ready to bring glory to the city.

“We are prepared for the championship and we are playing to bring the trophy back to Bulawayo for the community,” he said.
Let the games begin and may the best school rise to the top!
