Mr Harare contest postponed indefinitely

ATHLETES wishing to take over the mantle from Partson Chatedzuka as the Mr Harare bodybuilding champion will have to wait a little longer after the event was postponed indefinitely from this Saturday. According to the provisional calendar, the Harare Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships had been pencilled for August 31, at Prince Edward High School but have now been put on ice.

Harare Bodybuilding and Fitness Association chairman Keith Chirimhanzi yesterday said they will have to set a new date, possibly before the end of September.

“Our preparations have been affected because of the recently held national elections.
“We had a number of potential partners who had promised to come on board and help but are yet to do so.

“So our financial situation is not healthy because we need more sponsors and that’s why we have postponed the event from this Saturday to another date, possibly at the end of September,” said Chirimhanzi.

Chirimhanzi said they had already secured the venue and should be re-doing the bookings. “We have to go back to PE and find out when the venue would be available again so that we fix alterative dates,” said Chirimhanzi.

The Mr Harare event was revived last year and won by policeman Patson Chatedzuka at Reps Theatre in August, he had been expected to defend his title again.

Chatedzuka had already prepared for the defence of his title after he flexed his muscles in the Muscle Mania contest held earlier this month, where he lost to Champion Chiendaramwano.

“The circumstances are beyond our control and we have already notified the athletes through the various gyms and on our social media platform pages.

“I think more than 16 athletes had already made entries and we hope more people will continue to come because of the added time.
“We have received part of the prizes like food hampers and supplements but we feel there is need to get a decent monetary value for the bodybuilding and fitness championships,” said Chirimhanzi.
