CURVACEOUS, Tafadzwa Muhamba (22) was coroneted Miss Culture, beating 17 other contestants at this year’s Mr and Miss Culture provincial beauty pageant held last Saturday at Mutare Hall.
The tightly-contested event saw Martha Zulu and Tafadzwa Tawazadza being crowned first and second princesses respectively.
Morepower Gombe (20) was crowned Mr Culture, while the first prince was Devine Mareya.
The winners were clad in unique traditional outfits that mesmerised adjudicators and a handful of people who attended the seemingly poorly organised contest that started late in the afternoon.
The event was organised by the National Arts Council among other stakeholders that included talented musician Sarah Dee and Charity Banda.
Big Brother Africa The Chase housemate, Hakeem Mandaza and “Alleluya” hit-maker, Roki briefly showed up at the event, but could not perform.
In an interview, Gombe said he was pleased to be among the crème de crème of the inaugural edition of the contest.
“The contest was not easy. I was nervous. I am, however, happy that I came out tops ahead of four other models I competed with,” he said.
Muhamba, who was elegantly dressed, said she would continue to take modelling seriously.
“I am delighted. This came as a surprise. This is quite an encouragement. I hope to win in future pageants,” she said.
Gombe and Muhamba will be attending the Culture Week launch to be held today (Friday) and tomorrow in Mapembe, Odzi where the Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs, Mandi Chimene, will be the guest of honour.
Acting Mutare District Administrator, Simon Sigauke, who was the guest of honour paid tribute to the National Arts Council for organising the event.
