ORGANISERS of the Mr and Miss Rural Zimbabwe pageant say they will stick with contestants with a deep rural background to make it unique.
Pageant founder, Sipho Mazibuko, said preliminaries were now on course.
The Mashonaland East finals will be held on March 26 at Daramombe High School in Chivhu.
Mazibuko said the 2023 edition, which also caters for male contestants, is meant to empower less privileged models with life skills.
She said they will not pick models from growth points but those who live deeper in the rural areas.
“We have noted that we needed to empower those from the deep rural areas as well.
“Sandra Ndebele became popular because of Miss Rural Zimbabwe, so nothing can stop us from achieving that again.
“The main reason for this is to put every child on the map.”
She added:
“We also are trying to market our tourism.
“We waited to have the show this year because we wanted to improve and have a better show.
“The venue also suits our pageant because we want rural settings to ensure that it comes out well.”
Mazibuko said the designer must be Zimbabwean and the models must be 18-25 years of age.
