Mr Pace marathon leaves positive impression

The event is the brainchild of Collin Makaza, who was a world renowned long distance runner during his time, and attracted athletes from all the provinces.
Most of the athletes who took part in the race said they were charmed.
Gilbert Mutandiro and Sharon Tavengwa won the men and women’s races respectively.
Information and Publicity Minister, Webster Shamhu, the guest of honour, said there was need for people to take sport seriously.
“There is the obvious benefit of physical fitness and good health that we get if we engage in sport on a regular basis,” said Shamu.
“Our lifestyle has become largely sedentary due to modernisation and many people no longer engage in physical work on a daily basis.
“Opportunities like these are therefore welcome and encouraged as they make us realise the need for regular exercise.
“Let us, therefore, organise our selves in our communities and engage in regular exercises for physical fitness and healthy living,” Shamhu said.
Mr Pace athletics club president, Makaza, said he was touched by the success of the race and was hopeful it will be bigger and better next year.
“The club is striving as much as it can and our aim is to bring athletics to the people.
“I am grateful for all those who have come to support us in this year’s event and we hope they will do the same next year. I am happy that we have managed to socialise as athletes and it’s good for us, especially during the holidays, when everyone is around,” Makaza said.
