NEWLY-crowned Mr Zimbabwe body-building king Champion Chiendaramwano says he will be taking a brief rest before focusing on his defence of the Mr Iron Man Botswana title later this month. The 27-year old hulk on Saturday night became the 15th man to win the Mr Zimbabwe title when the contest returned to the radar after a five-year absence.
Chiendaramwano first captured the Mr Zimbabwe heavyweight division before beating Matt Humphries (light-heavyweight), Ndumiso Dlodlo (middleweight) and Isaac Chimuchenga (lightweight) in the final round.
The athlete, who is based in Gaborone, Botswana, was yesterday taking it easy as he reflected on capturing the most prestigious title in his career.
“I am happy to have won the Mr Zimbabwe body-building title and I hope it will open more avenues for me.
I just hope I can now build my name using this title,” said Chiendaramwano.
The hulk now has the distinction of holding two national titles as he is also the reigning Mr Botswana.
“At present I have the two biggest titles in Zimbabwe and Botswana and my immediate goal is to go and defend Iron Man Botswana on November 23,” he said.
The hulk, who trains at Jacks Gym in Gaborone, where he is also a personal trainer, feels he is still in the right frame to pick his second title within a month.
“I am still in the right shape and my condition is okay.
I am still watching what I am eating, so I am ready for the next event before I take aim at competitions in South Africa next year,” he said.
Chiendaramwano feels the Mr Zimbabwe crown is his most prized title since he started pumping iron seriously in Kwekwe more than a decade ago.
“I won the Muscle Mania Zimbabwe in August which was better rewarding, in terms of the package, but the Mr Zimbabwe is the biggest title.
“Now I should work on representing my country at the world championship and as a first I should get a good finish at the IFBB shows in South Africa,” he said.
During weigh in, Chiendaramwano titled the scale at 98.8kgs while he was at 91kg when he lifted the Muscle Mania crown in August.
“Definitely I will be back to defend Mr Zimbabwe next year and I hope to compete until I retire.
“I am also willing to work for any charity in Zimbabwe as Mr Zimbabwe because I get fewer opportunities in Botswana as a foreigner,” he said.
A South Africa-based company Nutri-Tech has came on board to invest in Chienderamwano as they give him supplements and cash every month in a deal running for two years while the athlete market their products.
Meanwhile, National Federation of Zimbabwe Body-building and Fitness president, Otis Goredema, says they are now working on next year’s calendar as the Mr and Ms Zimbabwe contests marked the end of the 2013 events.
