MSF donates vehicle, furniture

Medicines Sans Frontiers (MSF) has donated a Toyota Land Cruiser worth $30 000 and sundry worth $3 450 to the Ministry of Health and Child Care’s mental health services department.

The furniture consists of eight chairs, fan, heater, binder, laminator and one armed chair.

In his acceptance speech at the handover ceremony held in Harare on Friday last week, Minister of Health and Child Care Dr David Parirenyatwa said MSF has been working with the ministry, especially in supporting mental health services.

“MSF has supported in Forensic Mental Health Services, constructed the OPD, refurbished the Harare Psychiatric Hospital, Ngomahuru Hospital and trained General Nurses in the mental health gap,” he said.

Dr Parirenyatwa also said the ministry appreciates the great support from MSF and was very grateful to the donation of a vehicle and furniture to the mental health services department.

“The vehicle donation will go a long way in strengthening the community in the mental health services and support and supervision of mental health services in the country,” he said.

Dr Parirenyatwa said although MSF is about to leave the country, they have left “good footprints”.

“We are really sad that you are leaving, we are waiting for good news that you have decided to stay and continue supporting the Zimbabwean population,” he said.

MSF’s head of missions Mrs Abi Kebra Belaye said they have been working with the ministry for the past 17 years.

“We have seen it necessary to support Zimbabwe through the Ministry of Health and Child Care, particularly the mental health department and we hope what we have donated is going to support the ministry when embarking on its duties,” she said.
