MSU beat Hardbody

MSU beat a spirited Hardbody 2-0 in a Zifa Central Soccer League encounter played at Wilson Grounds over the weekend. Goals by Oliver Mangeya and Jonathan Michaels ensured that the “Varsity Sharks”, as the university outfit is affectionately known, took their points tally to 39 but it did not change their placing on the log as they remained at seventh position.

For Hardbody the loss left them in the murky waters of relegation and are now only a point ahead of NM Academy who are sitting on 12th position and with four teams being relegated at the end of the season, the battle to escape the dreaded chop is becoming intriguing with each passing weekend.

Gwanda Ramblers, Kwekwe Pirates and Tripple B Academy which were expelled during the mid season break have taken the other three relegation slots.

MSU coach, Godfrey Chuchu hailed his charges after the win and said he was looking forward to finishing in a respectable position. Chuchu who had earlier on declared that he wanted to finish among the top four, later changed to say he was on a rebuilding exercise to challenge for honours next season.

“I am happy to have collected maximum points today and this will go a long way in us finishing in a respectable position at the end of the season,” he said.

In other matches played across the region, Vumbachikwe’s purple patch continued following a 2-0 drubbing of struggling army side, Tongogara in Gwanda. The result saw the goldminers who handed Town United their first defeat since head coach, John Phiri took over which cleared the passage for Chapungu to claim the championship,  storm in the top four for the first time in the second half of the season.
