LOG leaders MSU’s march towards the championship will face an acid test when they clash with third placed ZRP Beitbridge in a top of the table encounter in a Zifa Central Soccer League fixture at the university grounds.MSU, who have hit a purple patch since the second half of the season started, are yet to taste defeat.
They will come up against formidable opposition and fireworks are expected.
The border town outfit has so far claimed the scalps of former table leaders Whawha, Gweru City and Chrome Stars all also in the running for the championship.
A win for ZRP Beitbridge will see them within two points of their opponents today while a victory for MSU will see them maintain or extend their lead at the summit.
The Varsity Sharks, as MSU are affectionately known, have so far garnered 45 points from 21 games – two points clear of second placed Whawha and five points of ZRP Beitbridge.
MSU coach Godfrey Chuchu is positive of walking away with maximum points and said the vociferous students who have of late shown interest in the game after the side powered to the top will be their 12th man.
“We’re prepared for the match and we know the threat posed by them but we’re confident that we’ll collect maximum points. We’ve the crowd behind us now one which can surpass that of most Premiership teams and they can unsettle most of our opponents,” he said.
ZRP Beitbridge secretary Russell Majuta was equally upbeat of coming out with a result.
In other matches Whawha entertain Gaths Mine at the correctional services grounds in the hope of reclaiming pole position.
