A JOURNALISM lecturer at the Midlands State University (MSU) and his colleague survived a horror crash after their vehicle hit a cow before colliding with an oncoming vehicle along the Gweru-Kwekwe Highway.
Dr Lyton Siya Ncube from MSU and Dr Jasper Maphosa, a part time journalism lecturer at Great Zimbabwe and Zimbabwe Open University, are admitted at Midlands Private Hospital in Gweru where they are in a stable condition following the crash.
The accident occurred on Tuesday night.
Dr Ncube, who was behind the wheel of the Toyota Corolla Bubble, said they were heading towards Kwekwe from Gweru when disaster struck.
“We were going to Kwekwe after I had picked Dr Maphosa from Gweru where he was doing his marking,” he said.
Dr Ncube said upon approaching the 20km peg, a vehicle going in the opposite direction dazzled him with bright lights.
“I couldn’t see what was in front of me as I was flashed, all of a sudden I saw a huge thing in front of me and the next thing a loud bang,” he said.
The cow, he said, had died after having been knocked down by another vehicle earlier.
Dr Maphosa said had it not been for seat belts, they could have died.
