Mt Darwin robbery: US$700k recovered

MORE than US$700 000 and 2,4kg of gold that had reportedly been seized by suspected armed robbers at a bank in Mt Darwin early Thursday morning have been recovered.

In post on X yesterday evening, the police said: “Reference is made to the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s post on its official X handle, dated June 26, 2025, regarding a reported bank robbery incident in Mt Darwin, in which US$700 000 in cash and 2,4 kilogrammes of gold were allegedly stolen.

“Following further investigations, the case is now being treated as an attempted robbery, as all the cash and gold have since been recovered. More details will be released in due course.”

The case had come a day after Old Nic Mine in Bulawayo had been robbed of US$520 000, sending shockwaves across the country.
