AFTER successfully hosting four shows at the Hyatt Regency Hotel this year, comedian Dillan “DC” Chiota has decided to take a breather as he contemplates his next move.
The 22-year-old has won over the hearts of even the most discerning Harare fans and praised the hotel management for providing him with valuable exposure.
DC, part of a new wave of comedians alongside Ckanyiso, Mc Josh, and Tinaye, is confident that more shows will follow after the end of his contract.
“I have officially wrapped up my chapter at the Hyatt Regency Hotel with four incredible shows, and we closed with a back-to-back performance that sold out both events,” he emphasised.
The versatile creative, whose strength lies in stage communication and powerful fan engagement, assured comedy lovers he would make a comeback as a better man.
“I’m currently planning and making bookings for future shows, but for now, we are taking a winter break until July.
“We will only make a comeback in August at a new venue to be announced, and we will strive to maintain the same aesthetic value of my events. Undoubtedly, we will announce the next show in mid-July with the hope of keeping the momentum going after selling out three shows in a row, including the Back2Back series.”
DC, who has made an instant impact after announcing his arrival last year, believes in originality and engagement.
“My comedy shows are all about bringing people together and providing a memorable experience—not just for laughter, but for thought,” he stressed.
Earlier this year, in an interview with the publication, he maintained that comedy was significant in Zimbabwe. He still holds the same stance halfway through the year 2025.
“Comedy is huge here! People love to laugh and have a good time. Over the past few years, especially since I started in this art form, I’ve noticed a growing demand for shows and festivals in the country, and I’m excited to be part of it,” he stated. He praised comedy for its role in creating memories and providing relief to those facing challenges.
“If you stay outside the Facebook comment sections, you’ll see that Zimbabweans are warm and hospitable. Comedy has always been a great way to foster a sense of community. I believe the appeal of comedy is continuously growing.”
Outlining his vision, DC expressed his determination to make a lasting impression through his comedic work.
“My vision has always been to create a brand of comedy that is unique, relatable, and entertaining. I’m passionate about telling authentic and honest stories that bring people together and make them laugh. I’m also eager to collaborate with other comedians, writers, and artists to create new and innovative content.”
Explaining the origin of his stage name “DC,” he said, “My real name is also my stage name, Dillan Chiota. People call me DC because it’s simpler.”
“I’m known for my laid-back, thought-provoking style of comedy. But hey, you don’t have to take my word for it; just buy the tickets before they sell out!”
