MOUNT Mellary Primary School are this year’s provincial champions of the National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe heritage quiz competition held at Courtauld Theatre last Friday.The tightly-contested event saw the Nyanga-based school posting 41 points, while second-placed Chipinge Primary School garnered 38 points.
The exhilarating contest saw Chimanimani Primary School settling for third position with 35 points, while defending champions Murambinda B faltered and were a distant fourth with 34 points.
The heritage quiz competition is National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe’s annual flagship event for primary schools and this year the competition is running under the theme: “Museums and Cultural Landscapes”.
A quiz trainer in the Mt Mellary’s quiz team, a Nyamazana was elated with his team’s emphatic win saying it was a well deserved win.
For the past five years, the team would falter in the sudden death stage.
He attributed his team’s success to hard work and overwhelming support from the school authorities.
National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe marketing officer, Lloyd Makonya, said the quiz competition went on smoothly.
“We are happy that all went well. It was a bigger and better event. We would like to congratulate Mt Mellary Primary School and we wish them the best in their future endeavours,” he said.
According to Makonya, the theme was developed to encourage a reflection on the museum’s specific relationship with its context.
“Landscape is, precisely, the context in which we live and which surrounds us, with all of the images and symbols that identify and characterise it,” he added.
The winning team comprised Akim Kunyarimwe, Richard Matikari and Michelle Rwambiwa.
