MUTARE Teachers’ College is this year’s host of the annual Zimbabwe Teachers’ Colleges Sport Association (ZITCOSA) Zone A Games starting on Wednesday. Zone A is comprised of Masvingo, Bondolfi, Morgenster, Marymount and Mutare Teachers’ colleges.
Zone B is made up of Hillside, United College of Education and Mkoba teachers’ colleges. Belvedere, Seke, Morgen Zintec, Madziwa and Nyadire teachers’ colleges form the third and last Zone C.
Participants in these games compete in more than 16 sporting disciplines that include athletics, soccer (men and women), netball, volleyball, basketball, rugby, handball, softball, cricket, hockey, darts, pool, chess, lawn tennis, table tennis and karate.
Zitcosa Zone A chairperson, Joshua Matume, confirmed that preparations for the ZITCOSA Zone A Games were at an advanced stage.
“All our indoor games will take place at Mutare Teachers’ College. Athletics will take place in Sakubva Stadium.
“We are hosting these games in preparation for ZITCOSA national games to be held in Masvingo at Morgenster Teachers’ College on May 24 to 29.
“All the 13 teachers’ colleges will battle it out in Masvingo in the national finals.
“Preparations for this event are at an advanced stage. Mutare Teachers’ College is now ready for the event. We are extending our invitation to the community of Manicaland and Mutare in particular to come and witness this very important event on our teachers’ colleges sports calendar,” said Matume.
Successful teams will proceed to Zimbabwe Tertiary Institutions Sport Union (ZTISU) Games championships to be held in Bulawayo June 17 to 26.
NUST is hosting the event.
From ZTISU, winners proceed to Confederation of Universities and Colleges Sport Association (CUCSA) Games set for July 30 to August 6 and Zimbabwe is hosting this event.
It will take place in Bulawayo with more than 14 African countries participating.
