THE 2016 Carling Black Label National Pool Finals runner-up Tendai “Inspector” Mubaiwa has promised to reclaim his title at the Mutare Motoring Club in Mutare this Saturday. This year’s edition of the premier pool tournament has drawn over 2 150 participants and all eyes will be on Mubaiwa who lost his title to Blessing Chatoma last year. Chatoma of Harare took the honours after beating Mubaiwa by two frames to nil in the men’s final at The Barn in Gweru. Mubaiwa had won the same event in Bulawayo.
“I think I am going to improve from last year’s performance where I underrated my opponent and he rode on that,” said Mubaiwa.
“I played someone whom I usually play with and I knew better so I just took it casually but at the end it proved costly to me. This year there are no excuses as I did everything and I hope to be somewhere near the finals at worst. The competition is always tough and I think the event which we hosted, the All-Africa Challenge, gave me confidence as I was one of coaches and this helped me a lot.
“I am practising a lot, especially here at Maruta and in Chitungwiza, where there is a lot of competition. I play different players like Eddie Gumindoga, Prince Muchabaiwa, Abisha Makoni, Jaison Mhundwa and Joe Nyamukorosa who are equally good.” In the women’s section, Charity Ncube of Kadoma, who is the defending champion, took the honours by defeating Patience Pasipamire 2-0 in last year’s final.The CBL National Pool Championships have become a very successful tourney on the domestic front. This year has seen the tourney increasing its participants’ base by over 150 players.
