In yesterday’s session, both sides presented their witness lists and court president Ahmed Rifaat announced that for the next session, the court would ban the closed-circuit television that allowed thousands of people to follow the trial. The transition government promised weeks ago that the trials for defendants charged with administrative corruption and other crimes would be open to the public, amid growing tensions over the return to Tahrir Square of thousands of demonstrators frustrated at the slow pace of promised reforms. Police dressed in white without side arms guarded the area around the court, located in the Police Academy, but were unable to prevent stone-throwing and yelling between Mubarak supporters and opponents.
