Mubochwa counts losses

Harare-based fashion guru Thembani Mubochwa is a frustrated man. He feels the Covid-19 pandemic has negatively impacted the fashion industry largely in the country and worldwide.

The lockdown which was imposed by the Government so as to reduce the spread of the virus (Covid 19), saw many showbiz exhibitions and gatherings banned including the showcasing of fashion trends.

As it is almost half the year with the Covid-19 “dark” cloud engulfing the whole world, almost every industry is at a standstill, as if that is not enough, trading with other nations has become difficult as borders and airports are closed.

This has immensely affected Mubochwa who source his material from Paris, Malaysia, West Africa, China and the neighbouring South Africa.

He revealed that he had to delay to release his 2020 fashion collection which he was willing to showcase at the annually held Paris fashion week extravaganza, after successfully presenting his plastic and PVC designs at the last year’s edition held in France’s city of fashion.

Despite the lack of resources, he is working hard to perfect this year’s collection.

Mubochwa has raised the Zimbabwean flag high in most world wide fashion stages, apart from showcasing in Paris, he has taken his designs to South Africa’s most epic fashion show Durban July, Egypt, among other countries.

Locally, he designs for a number of prominent individuals including Jah Prayzah who released his much anticipated album Hokoyo early this week.
