ZIMBABWE international defender Alec Mudimu says his retirement from international football was due to his desire to focus on his personal life and pursue other opportunities.

Mudimu said playing for his country was a dream come true.

“I’ve had the utmost pleasure representing my country in the world of football,” Mudimu said.

“I want to thank God for bringing about the opportunity and forever looking over myself and all of us.

“I’ve played alongside some of the greatest players that have been produced in Zimbabwe.

“I was coached by some of the best coaches produced in Zimbabwe and also overseas.

“I’m so very grateful to everyone.

“With all due respect, there’s nothing else the world of football, at the international stage, can provide for myself anymore.

“I believe I’ve found the key to peace and happiness.

“My state of mind is no longer attracted to the spotlight of international football any more though I hope to help my country one day.

“I believe it’s not playing on the pitch anymore but in other ways, who knows? I look forward to future opportunities.”

He reflected on his Warriors career.

“Honestly, there’s no one specific moment that stands out,” Mudimu said.

“It was all a dream I lived to the fullest and I’m proud of the ups and downs in it all.”

He said the late George Chigova will always have a special place in his heart.

“I can recall the first call-up for the Four Nations tournament a while back now, so it seems, and the first person who greeted me and looked after  us was George Chigova.

“He will forever have a special place in my heart.

“There are also the likes of Tino Kadewere, Evans Rusike, David Moyo, Cliff Moyo, Talbert Shumba, and Khama Billiat.

Mudimu revealed that he is currently studying for his UEFA Pro License.
