Mufakose teenager raped by sangoma’s assistant

A MUFAKOSE teenager was raped by a sangoma’s assistant she had approached for help to replace money she had stolen from her mother.

Malone Mununuki was not asked to plead when he appeared before magistrate Stanford Mambanje yesterday.

The court heard that sometime in April, the 17-year-old visited Sekuru Shumba in Mufakose, after stealing her mother’s US$4 500.

She told the sangoma that she wanted a charm to replace the money.

She paid US$400, which she had been left with.

When she visited the sangoma in May, she found Mununuki alone at the house and he invited her inside and raped her.

The matter came to light when the girl’s parents discovered that the their money had been stolen.

The girl confessed that she had taken the remaining US$400 to the sangoma.

When they went to recover the money, she told them that she was also raped by Mununuki.
