Mugabe’s son Chatunga fined R600K, deported as co-accused jailed

BELLARMINE Chatunga Mugabe, the son of former President Robert Mugabe, has been fined R600 000 and deported to Zimbabwe, while his co-accused, Tobias Matonhodze, was sentenced to three years imprisonment for the shooting incident that occurred in Johannesburg, South Africa earlier this year.
The pair appeared at the Alexandra Magistrates Court in Johannesburg this morning, after which Chatunga was taken from court to OR Tambo International Airport and immediately deported.
Matonhodze was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment on count one, 12 months on count two, three years on count three, and 12 months on count four.
The sentences will run concurrently.
He will be deported once his sentence is served.
Chatunga and Matonhodze were both represented by Mr Mike Hellens SC.
Chatunga admitted to being in South Africa illegally and to pointing a firearm.
The firearm charge relates to a separate incident that occurred two weeks before the shooting at the Mugabe residence in Hyde Park in February.
Matonhodze also pleaded guilty to attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, contravening immigration laws and possession of ammunition.
