MIGHTY WARRIORS coach Shadreck Mlauzi has revealed that his predecessor Rosemary Mugadza was one of the first people to congratulate him on the team’s qualification for the Olympics.
“We are in the same trade and at the same time Rose is a close friend of mine. She phoned and congratulated me after last Sunday’s victory,” he said.
Mlauzi , however, became tongue tied when asked about the possibility of working with Mugadza in the national team set up.
“I still believe she has a lot to offer, she started this journey but at the same time a lot has happened and one wouldn’t want to comment much on that issue. We are still basking in the glory of qualifying and after that we will see what needs to be done.
“However, I am not sure if the administration can allow me to incorporate her,” said the Mighty Warriors mentor.
Mugadza, who started the Olympic journey in May with a victory over northern neighbours Zambia, was evasive when this publication sought her comment.
“What exactly do you want to talk about? Please get in touch tomorrow,” she said last Wednesday.
Repeated efforts to contact her again were futile.
Mugadza coached the Mighty Warriors for nine years before she was controversially fired on September 11, a few weeks before the final round qualifier against Cameroon.
It is alleged that she paid the price for refusing to follow a ZIFA directive not to pick players from a league run by suspended women football boss Miriam Sibanda.
ZIFA claimed Mugadza’s sacking through its website saying the move was part of the association’s restructuring exercise.
However Ben Moyo, who also sits on the High Performance Committee that recommends the hiring and firing of coaches, claims they never recommended that Mugadza be fired.
