FORMER Warriors defender William Mugeyi has tipped Cameroon to win the prestigious Africa Cup of Nations finals which will be hosted by Equatorial Guinea from January 17 to February 8.
He believes Cameroon did well in the qualifying stages of the event despite an early exit in this year’s Fifa World Cup finals won by Germany in Brazil.
“The Indomitable Lions are back on track after a disastrous performance in the World Cup. They are formidable and ready to roar.
“This is a team which possesses skillful, hungry and experienced players which will be participating in the next Afcon finals. Their players ply their trade in top leagues in Europe,” said Mugeyi.
The former Zimbabwe Black Aces player said he knows that there will be good teams as well in the tournament like Ghana, Senegal, Algeria and Cote d’Ivoire but firmly believes Cameroon will do well.
“People must always know that the Indomitable Lions are no pushovers especially after many years without lifting the continent’s biggest tournament. I watched some of their matches during qualifiers, they were playing entertaining and collective football.
“Seeing them mesmerise their opponents I’m quite confident they will be a major threat for many of their opponents,” said Mugeyi.
He said South Africa are dark horses of the tournament and they could surprise many with their recent performances during qualifiers.
They beat stubborn Congo 2-0, drew with Nations Cup champions Nigeria home and away.
“Bafana Bafana are a threat”, he said.
Mugeyi believes Bafana Bafana coach Ephraim “Shakes” Mashaba will lead the team to success and urged the country to rally behind him and the team.
