Mugomeri leaves lasting impression

Mugomeri won the race in 4 minutes 30 seconds to qualify for the  Zimbabwe International Trade Fair miler which had been set at sub-4.39 min.
Competition co-ordinator Enias Nhoro, who is also the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe director of competitions, was pleased with the performances of Adbul Simbili of Ziscosteel and Wendy Malunga of Eiffel Flats.
“Overally, I think we saw some very good performances especially from Jacob Mugomeri who set a qualifying time for the ZITF event.
“The selectors for the ZITF competition were present and they witnessed this achievement.
“There was also a commendable performance from Simbili in the men’s 100m and Wendy shone in the women’s 100m and 200m events,” said Nhoro. Nhoro said he was also pleased by the performance of primary schools athletes.
“The cadets were impressive, Ashley Majabvi of Munyaradzi Primary School doing fine in the 400m and 800m. Another cadet, Bertha Maphosa, also made a good performance,” said Nhoro.
A total of 22 clubs from across the country converged in Kadoma yesterday for the track and field championship with Munyaradzi Athletics Club emerging the winners.
Munyaradzi finished with 10 gold medals, 11 silver and six bronze while Kuredza Club were on nine gold medal, five silver and two bronze.
Eiffel Flats came in third place after winning eight gold medals, six silver and three bronze with Mupamombe and Midlands State University tied on seven gold medals.
Competition hosts, Rimuka Club, finished in sixth place and Nhoro believes the track and field season will gather momentum next week.
