Muhoni is back

out of retirement and is back at Zifa Northern Region Division One football side Black Rhinos.
Two years ago, Muhoni ended his colourful career after a poor spell at CAPS United.
Muhoni never managed to scale the standards he set during his heydays at Black Rhinos and Green Buffaloes.
Despite playing as a midfielder, Muhoni was among the leading goalscorers at Rhinos.
He also played for Dynamos.
Muhoni admits that age is now catching up with him and, like his former skipper at the Warriors, Peter Ndlovu, he is now past his prime.
Ndlovu has also come out of retirement and is now on the books of Black Mambas.
“It has been close to two year years since I last played competitive football. But now I am back at training with Black Rhinos.
“I was asked to consider if I could be able to help the team in Division One and this is why I am back.
“It will not be easy because the fitness has deserted me but I hope to do something for the 30 or so minutes that I play with the youngsters,” said Muhoni.
Muhoni was part of the army side that played Dynamos during a preparatory game at Raylton Sports Club on Thursday before he was pulled out in the second half.
“Rhinos has a lot of youngsters and we hope to give them some guidance here and there,” said Muhoni.
Muhoni returns to Black Rhinos alongside ageless defender Brighton Chandisaita, goalkeeper Britto Gwere, Nicholas Gora and striker Selemani Phiri.
The ageing quintet is expected to get cameo roles from coach Gift Makoni but their presence is expected to instill the Chipembere spirit in the greenhorns.
And besides reviving his football career, Muhoni runs his company, which is into events and functions management.
He is also a singer and songwriter with the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian.
Muhoni is hoping to end his career at Rhinos, the club that thrust him to stardom.
Meanwhile the Zifa Northern Region Division One league will kick off this afternoon with a truncated programme following an impasse involving some of their clubs over implementation of the age limit rule.
The league had this season adopted the resolution that players should be below 25 years.
Although the clubs were against it they subsequently registered the players under the requirements before the close of their window last week.
But last week’s Zifa board meeting saw the mother body deferring the resolution and giving a lifeline to clubs like Black Rhinos and Commando Bullets, which have players above the proposed age limit. .
Zifa chief executive Jonathan Mashingaidze on Tuesday wrote to all the four regions advising them of the mother body’s decision.
“Following the board meeting of March 25, it was resolved that the proposed plan to introduce age limit for players in Division One be deferred indefinitely to allow for wide consultations amongst all the football stakeholders,” wrote Mashingaidze.
In the light of these developments, fixtures involving the army sides have been cancelled.
The Northern Region board is set to convene in the capital this morning to map the way forward.
Secretary-general Sweeney Mushonga said they have to some up with a solution which should best address the challenges they now face.
“We have since been furnished with the letter by Zifa and we are meeting tomorrow to discuss the implications
“Two clubs Black Rhinos and Commando Bullets have a number of their players who do not meet the new regulation.
“Other clubs that have registered junior players are now seeking redress arguing that they were forced to release players they wanted to use because of age.
“We believed it was good idea for soccer development. But now we have to see how we go about it considering the window has closed,” said Mushonga.
