An inquest is an investigation held in public to establish the cause of death, particularly where there is suspicion of foul play.
It is a legal procedure conducted by a magistrate or judge in the public interest.

In an interview, Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri said investigations were complete but the findings were now with the courts, which ordered an inquest.
He said there was nothing peculiar about an inquest since this has been done before in several cases where foul play is suspected.
“Just like any Zimbabwean, this is the normal procedure that has to be conducted and as of now I cannot say anything on the case,” Comm-Gen Chihuri.

Gen Mujuru was alone at his farm, 60km south of Harare when tragedy struck.
His remains were discovered in one of the lounges burnt beyond recognition.
The farmhouse was extensively damaged and nothing was recovered save for sofas and few other items.
