WARRIORS midfielder Denver Mukamba is on trials at South Africa’s Absa Premier Soccer League team SuperSport United after being off-loaded by Bidvest Wits.Mukamba started his trials at the Pretoria-based outfit last Friday.
United coach Cavin Johnson told Chronicle Sport on Wednesday evening:
“Mukamba is on trials with us since last week. At the moment I can’t divulge whether he will be signed but he is showing great character and enthusiasm.
“Since coming here I’m delighted with what I have seen from the Zimbabwean player, his advantage is that he is not new to the PSL as he spent some time with Wits and he also plays for his country which is fantastic.”
Johnson said he is still monitoring Mukamba’s progress and has not yet made his final decision but will give a full report about the final trial outcome in a few days’ time.
United coach Johnson added that he has to strengthen his squad before they start playing official games.
The former Dynamos midfielder spent much of his time last season on the sidelines due to a series of injuries and poor form.
Johnson says the player is injury-free.
If Mukamba signs he will join Kaitano Tembo who coaches the team’s Under-19 and new signing, goalkeeper George Chigova.
Other players who have worked at United are former Highlanders and Dynamos striker Makwinji Soma-Phiri and Bruce Grobbelaar who coached the side.
