WINGATE-BASED top amateur Innocent Mukumba was crowned the 2023 Mashwede Classic Champion at Falcon Golf Club at the weekend.
Mukumba began the tournament on a high note as he led from the start until the end in the 54-hole tournament.
The youngster, who finished third in the Roland Park Open, carded rounds of 71, 74 and 77 for a total 222.
Mukumba said he was happy with his first win and is hopeful that he will continue to do well and manage to win more tournaments.
“I am very happy with the win and I believe it is the beginning of big things to come. The competition was tough but I managed to win the tournament.
“The falcon course is challenging and I am grateful to all those who supported me.
I am thankful to the sponsors Alex “Dr Mash” Mashamhanda and the Zimbabwe Golf Association for such a tournament,’ said Mukumba.
On second place was Davidson Kamwathendo who had rounds of 75, 74 and 78 for a total 227 with Shepherd Chiwaya in third place.
Chiwaya had rounds of 80, 79 and 73 for a total 232 with Raphael Jazi coming on fourth place as B Chawoma was tied for fifth place with Munetsi Munetsi.
Falcon based Munetsi Munetsi utilised course knowledge to tie with Chawoma after rounds of 81, 77 and 81 for a total of 239 as William Geach who finished second at the Rowland Park Open was seventh.
