TWO Zimbabwean graduates from the MultiChoice Talent Factory have emphasised the importance of innovative collaborations in the creative industry.
Sandelo Msalili and Molleen Chisveto said they are making inroads into Africa’s film and television industry.
The MTF initiative has seen MultiChoice Africa establish three academies to provide training and skills enhancement for aspiring filmmakers from across the continent.
The duo were at an academy, based in Lusaka, Zambia, which serves Southern Africa, while two others serve East Africa (Nairobi, Kenya) and West Africa (Lagos, Nigeria).
Chisveto, who was doing film and television production, said:
“As Zimbabweans, we have to work together and tell our own stories, I really learnt a lot in Zambia, the experience and exposure were awesome.
“There isn’t much support for women in filmmaking.
“I really love working behind the scenes. There isn’t enough coverage on women.
“I am grateful to MultiChoice that presented an opportunity for me, the programme was informative plus educational.”
Msalili said collaboration was key.
“As a creative genius, I did online editing plus production with Multichoice Talent Factory and my aim now is to contribute to the film industry.
“I can say I gained experience which I’ll merge to better the industry.
“So, now, the most important thing is to work on my own productions, collaborate and share knowledge on film.
“We need to collaborate as filmmakers to produce premier local content. We have good storytellers, who invest in short films.
“I was losing hope in Zim film and my time in Zambia had me rethinking that I want work to build the sector,” he said.
Twenty students are selected to study each year on an annual course.
