Munandi dazzles Chibuku fans

The group stole the limelight at the show with their Afro-fusion music and was subsequently crowned this year’s champions of the talent. So determined was the group that when it hit the stage, it was clear from the outset that they had something new to offer.

It appears winning the Chibuku Road To Fame was only the beginning of bigger things in future.
The five-member group comprises former Prince Edward School students who came together, not by accident, but through their love for music.
The group has members John Pfumojena who is the lead vocalist, mbira player and also the leader of the group, Raymond Mupfumira on keyboards, saxophonist Osborne Mategenzara and Pritchard Chikwama on bass guitar.

The drummer is Blessing Chinanga.
Pfumojena said the group was happy to have been crowned the winners of the competition.
“We are very excited to be this year’s winners of the competition and this is just the beginning of bigger things for us and only the sky is the limit,” said Pfumojena.

He applauded Delta Beverages and National Arts Council of Zimbabwe for sponsoring the show.
“Credit must go to the sponsors who have given us (upcoming artistes) a platform where we can showcase our talent,” he said.
He urged next year’s participants in the competition to take their time and make music that every one will appreciate,” he said.

Commenting on how they managed to win, what skills and tactics they applied during the stiff competition, Pfumojena said it was about priority and determination.
“Participants in the show should be thorough in their practice and they should make sure they have good stage antics. For us it was about hardwork and perseverance,” he said.
The talented and energetic vocalist added that people should not look down upon music as it can sustain livelihood.

“Besides bringing joy tour hearts and uniting people of different cultures, the music industry is one of the greatest employers in the world,” he said.
Munandi Express was formed in 2001 at Prince Edward School.

The group has remained united throughout the years and they have been resident performers at Book Café since 2009 where they have managed to wow the fans with their polished act.
They have also curtain raised for Oliver Mtukudzi and collaborated with Chiwoniso Maraire. Their big break was when they performed at the hugely popular Harare International Festival of the Arts last year.
